Mark your calendars (and amp up those appetites) because the Laurel UMC Youth are hosting a Pancake Breakfast to raise money so they can attend Dare 2 Share in Seattle. The Pancake Breakfast will be held Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. Dare 2 Share is an exciting opportunity for our Youth to really grow in their faith. It's does for teens what Women of Faith has done for (female) adults. Interestingly - and tragically - the start of the Dare 2 Share ministries has a direct correlation to the April 20, 1999 school shooting at Columbine High School. Greg Stier, President and Founder of Dare 2 Share Ministries, resigned a pastorate at a church in Arvada, CO following that tragic day to pursue Dare 2 Share full-time. The "driving concept behind this movement is a calling, much like the calling Jesus gave to his disciples...a dare to share." -Dare 2 Share website Certainly you can head over to the Dare 2 Share website to learn more about why our Youth are so fired up to attend this event, but even better, just ask them when you pop in and support their Pancake Breakfast this Sunday. Mark your calendars and plan to help us pack the pews because the Laurel UMC Youth Group is taking on the awesome challenge of leading the January 27th main Worship Service. You can expect a little moving and grooving as things get ready to start (in that lovely 10:00-10:15 a.m. window), and from there things will be divvied up between various youth, with senior Emily Shelton delivering the sermon. Expect great and wonderful things from this group of bright, faithful young people! We hope to see you there! Registration for the 2012 Youth Retreat is now open! The Yellowstone Youth Ministry Team Retreat Committee would like to invite all 6th, 7th and 8th grade youth to come to the Junior High Retreat Bare Faith at:

Hello All!
I wanted to thank you all for your support of grassroots youth ministry and continued work with the Youth Ministry Team. For some of you we were able to have a short but sweet planning meeting after Annual Conference with those present at the Celebrate Youth event. A date has been set for the August 14 at 1pm at Hardin UMC. This will be a time for fellowship and connection with other youth ministries workers at churches in your district. You will have time to discuss your different youth programs, plan some collaborative events (or district events) to expand and deepen your local church ministries, and choose people to represent your districts and churches at the conference level Youth Ministry Team meeting on September 10-11 in Belgrade at Living Waters UMC. A very honest and important question was asked at our Celebrate Youth gathering: Why plan a meeting to have more meetings about youth ministries? Well let me ask you these questions: Have you ever wondered what your church could look like? Have you ever wanted to find out what the United Methodist Church looks like in another state or another country? Have you ever wanted to help other churches that don’t have young people or families involved to grow their programs? Would you like to be directly involved in the change that you want to see in the world – whether it be in the church, in mission throughout the US or abroad, in our response to national disasters, or in our presence in sister churches in third world nations? To say “I am a youth and I want to make a difference!” is a powerful decision and we want to make sure you are heard. We want to hear the voices of all of our youth in the Yellowstone Conference and it starts here and now with these conversations and gatherings of youth at the local and district level. From there the opportunities to meet with youth in the Western Jurisdiction, the greater US and abroad at events like Global Young People’s Convocation in Berlin – are open to you! Please say Yes – “I am a youth (or youth worker) and I want to make a difference” and join us at your district youth ministry meeting. Whether you are a pastor, a lay leader, a youth worker or a parent – We want to hear your voice. I need your name, address, phone number and email for my database (some have been collected at our gatherings but please send again) and please pass on names of other people in ministry who are excited to grow Youth Ministry at the grass roots level. Fill out the form below if you've decided to: Say "Yes, I want to make a difference." Hey All! “Celebrate Youth 2010” in Billings, MT from June 11-13. This event is a gathering of youth and youth workers for a weekend celebration, mission event and leadership training during our denominations Annual Conference. We will have fellowship, fun activities, mission projects, worship with our conference leadership and leadership activities. Whether you have committed to coming to Celebrate Youth, or you are thinking about it: WE NEED YOU. In 2009, the Yellowstone Annual Conference voted to designate a Youth Ministry Team with the following membership from each of the three districts (Western Mtn, Northern Plains, Bighorn): Youth leaders 3—1 each District) Clergy (3—1 each District) Lay Adults (3—1 each District) Voting Middle School youth (3—1 each District) Voting High School youth (3—1 each District) Yellowstone Conference Camping Committee Representatives (2) Youth Coordinator—Janna Lauver Connectional Ministries Director —Sue King Although there are only a few voting members, ALL youth from our conference interested in leadership are encouraged to participate in YMT leadership. The Youth Ministry Team is currently recruiting leadership in ALL areas. If you are interested please contact Janna at 406-599-5705. The commitment for being on this leadership team is minimal. You meet with your local cluster of youth groups (example: Billings, Laurel, Miles City or Bozeman, Livingston, Three Forks) to plan and execute local church events, mission trips or projects. You meet with the Youth Ministry Team once a quarter (one meeting set in: August, December, April, June during Annual Conference). Youth Ministry Team designates President, Vice President, Sec/Treasurer and Voting Delegates for Annual Conference Legislation. Youth Ministry Team plans larger district events (i.e. Convo and Jr. High Retreats), plans large missions, researches and reviews Youth Group curriculum, visits and supports local church Youth Leadership and cluster events in their areas. They also have the opportunity to attend our larger conference events regionally (Northwest US) and nationwide - not to mention the Global Young People's Convocation hosted every four years. This year we are sending three delegates to GERMANY. Now that may seem like a lot but if you have 2-3 people from your youth group or church supporting you - it is a challenge that you all can tackle with the support of the entire Youth Ministry Team. Imagine what your college application would look like and what United Methodist scholarships would be available to you? Consider what you would like YOUR church and conference to look like: what would we do as a church? how would we liven up worship? where would we serve in missions? WE NEED YOU to help shape our future. Please consider filling one of the slots in the areas listed above. Deadline for decision making is June 1st. Janna (Huhtala) Lauver Yellowstone Conference |
